In most cases, Panoptic produces high quality result lists in response to simple queries consisting of a list of words. It incorporates proven algorithms for measuring the similarity of the query to each webpage in the index and uses additional heuristics to promote key pages to the top of the ranking.

Sometimes, however, it is difficult to come up with a simple query which effectively discriminates between wanted and unwanted pages. Panoptic has a powerful query language to deal with these cases.
